Southstar Global Talk to us

On the ground at both ends.

We know the makers in person and the markets from the inside. Nothing lost in between.

Southstar Global takes Australian goods to the world, staying close to the maker at one end and the buyer at the other.

What we do

Good things, across borders, between people who share the same values.

We look for makers and producers who work properly, with care for the land they use and for the people around them. We are just as careful about who we trust to sell what they make, right through to whoever ends up holding it.

Most makers are brilliant at the thing they make. Finding the right buyer in another country is a different job entirely, and it is rarely where their time is best spent. That part is ours. We work through a network built over years of running other businesses, and it grows with every market we open.

We bring a product to buyers who care about the same things its maker does, so it arrives with its story intact. We stand at both ends ourselves. We choose the goods where they are made, and we know the markets they are going to from the inside. Where the values line up, so do we.

Why Australia

Because this place makes things worth carrying.

Australia grows and makes things the rest of the world genuinely wants: clean goods from clean land, and products made by people who put their own name on the label. The maker often lives ten minutes from where their product is made, and would hear about it if something wasn't right.

That's what we trade on. Our job is simple to say and hard to do: take the best of what this country makes to the world, market by market, done properly.

For producers

Your name travels with your product. We treat both with care.

Exporting runs through a long chain: a freight forwarder, a customs broker, an importer, a distributor, and somewhere at the end, a shelf and the final consumer. Most makers don't get to meet all of them, and plenty have learned to manage that chain themselves. We just think a product travels better when someone who knows it is walking alongside it the whole way.

When we take on a product, we handle the export paperwork, the logistics, and the market entry. Every market is different: its own rules, its own labelling, its own clearance, and its own idea of what a good product looks like. We know those differences before we ship, so you stay free to focus on what you love doing. You deal with one company and one set of people, from your shed to the shelf.

We take on few makers, deliberately. If we ask about yours, it's because we believe we can sell it well.

For buyers

Genuine Australian goods, chosen at the source.

Every product we offer, we have chosen ourselves, at the place it's made, from a maker we know personally and count as a friend. We're not working from a catalogue and neither are you.

We know the markets we sell into from the inside: the paperwork, the timelines, the standards, and the difference between what a brochure promises and what actually arrives. When something needs solving, we're already there.

How we choose

We say no a lot.

We don't run a catalogue and we don't chase volume. Before we carry anything, we visit where it's made, and then we live with that product for a while. It gets tried over and over: eaten, drunk, rubbed in, sat on, gifted to relatives who didn't ask for it, until it has earned a place in our own daily routine. And we ask the questions that never show up on a spec sheet: what the maker is proudest of, what they refuse to compromise on, and whether they'd be happy with where their product ends up.

Most products don't make it through. The ones that do get our full attention at the other end.

Our promises

Three things you can hold us to.

Who we are

Two of us. That's the point.

Southstar Global is Hung and Milan, a young family with a foot in Australia and a foot in every market we sell into. If the product goes somewhere, so do we. That's not a travel policy, it's how we check our own work.

Hung is second generation in a family manufacturing business that has grown to five plants, supplying international brands in food, beverage, industrial, and consumer goods. He also runs companies and projects built to last, from green manufacturing to a scholarship foundation with its own four-year theory of change. Milan is an entrepreneur in her own right, from food and beverage outlets to a boutique tabletop rental company for events and weddings.

Between us, we've sat on both sides of the table: as the maker, as the buyer, and as the person explaining to each what the other actually meant. It taught us that the deals that last are between people who care about the same things.
